About the role:

The Cyber Security team along with the Process Control Systems team is currently seeking a Specialist OT Cyber to join them on a Monday - Friday roster based at our West Perth office for a 2-year Fixed Term Contract. Reporting to the Manager Cyber Security, you will be responsible for the improvement of cyber security maturity across Hancock Iron Ore’s Operational Technology (OT) environments. The role works closely with operational, process control and technology teams to identify, assess, and manage cyber security risks associated with industrial control systems and operational technology platforms whilst assisting with bringing up associated teams cyber capability to agreed levels across multi year maturity models.

 

The position contributes specialist capability to ensure cyber security risks are understood, controls are implemented effectively, and security practices are embedded into OT systems, teams and projects. Through collaboration with site operations and technology teams, the role supports the development of secure operational environments, strengthens cyber resilience, and assists in protecting critical mining, rail, and port operations from cyber threats.


Duties:

  • Identify, assess, and manage the cyber security risks across OT and industrial control system environments
  • Contribute to the improvement of OT cyber security maturity by supporting implementation of controls aligned to recognised frameworks
  • Assist with vulnerability and threat management activities across OT environments, including identifying, prioritising, and coordinating remediation of vulnerabilities with operational and technology teams
  • Support cyber incident response activities impacting operational technology systems, including investigation, analysis, and coordination with cyber operations teams
  • Provide input into security architecture and design for OT systems, ensuring security requirements are incorporated into technology solutions and projects
  • Support monitoring and improvement of OT security capabilities, including endpoint security tools, network monitoring, and security detection technologies
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of cyber security standards, procedures, and guidance applicable to OT environments.
  • Support vendor and third‑party security assessments where technology interacts with operational environments.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security or related discipline; or equivalent practical experience
  • Extensive experience in cyber security within operational technology, industrial control systems, or broader technology environments.
  • Exposure to operational technology environments in Resources or similar heavy industry
  • Experience contributing to cyber security uplift initiatives, risk management activities, or security maturity improvements
  • Understanding of operational technology and industrial control system environments such as ICS, SCADA, and process control networks
  • Knowledge of OT cyber security principles including network segmentation, asset visibility, monitoring, and access control
